Helper12 by Jack Blaine
Helper 12 is a young woman whose sole purpose is caring for babies aged 0-6 months. These babies are “bred” by the government and then designated a role in order to serve for the rich of society- be it Helpers (domestic, medical etc), laborers, thinkers or breeders. One day the Director brings some of these rich Society members into the baby ward where they then illegally purchase a child and Helper12.
Viewing this world through the eyes of Helper12 really allows the reader to be drip fed the story and general state of society making this an excellent read. The dystopian plot isn’t anything new but the minor details that the author has created are well thought through and interesting. Overall it’s well written, professionally presented and a very enjoyable story.

A well-crafted world. An enjoyable story. Professionally presented. Well edited- no errors.
– Why you won’t…
At 44k words, it feels like a novella. If you’re a picky Sci-Fi fan you may feel it doesn’t bring anything new to the table.
